At boot up, the PC performed a disk check and repair which took around three minutes. I tried this same thing with Hard Drive A. I tried checking disk manager for the drive, but it wouldn’t load. The PC booted normally (albeit it took a few seconds more than normal). Next, I connected back the boot SSD and the hard drive. I panicked since initializing is the complete opposite of what I was trying to do, so I turned off the PC via the power button. A few seconds later it said “Initializing Storage”. I thought it was going to boot my father’s old computer ( was a pretty stupid idea), but during the boot process, the screen said “Initializing PCIe”. I disconnected my boot SSD and connected Hard Drive B to the motherboard. I tried to connect Hard Drive B to our PC in two ways: Hard drive A was from an even older computer we had. Let’s call them A & B, with B being the hard drive from the bricked computer six years ago. He saved the HDD from the old computer, but he never tried transferring the data (which has irreplaceable family pictures and videos) to his new computer.įast forward to the present, I was looking through my parent’s basement and I found two old hard drives, one of which was the hard drive from the bricked computer. This was my father’s computer and he decided to buy a new one.

I tried researching what that meant, but I couldn’t figure out what to do.

I got an error saying “Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device”. Six years ago, my HP desktop computer stopped booting up. No unusual sounds noticed when powered on. Condition: Drive is contained in its original metal shroud, never opened, possibly dropped.
